How do you handle an idea that keeps coming back to you ? How do you decide if it's an idea worth pursuing ? These are questions artists, writers, musicians and other creatives are constantly asking themselves.
I decided awhile ago that I wanted to focus on animal characters in my designs instead of people. A few months ago, I was just doodling and I created a sketch of a cartoon person that really struck a chord with me. I liked the sketch so much, I wondered how I could take it further, but then put on a back burner. I decided to develop the sketch into a non music themed related project, and enjoyed it so much, I wondered what else I could do with the style... and that's when I decided to pivot, at least temporarily from animal characters to human characters. I decided to create a line of designs inspired by my musical heroes, and the process began.
The key here was to be inspired by certain individuals, not do caricatures of them. I've started to compile a growing list and have posted some on my Instagram feed, https://www.instagram.com/martytoons/ including the one at the top of this post. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think. I've already made some of these available as art prints and put them on apparel and coffee mugs. I'm also open to ideas regarding who you'd like to see me use as inspiration for new ideas. I'd love to hear what you think.
In the meantime... thanks for stopping by. More importantly during this insane Corona Virus Pandemic we've found ourselves in, stay at home if you can, be aware of your surrounding and think of who you may come in contact with. You may be healthy, but they may not be, or they may come into contact with someone who might not be. Be safe, and the sooner we can stop the spread, the sooner this craziness can be history.
